O comedie extrem de actuală, Idilă cu dădaca mea spune cu mult farmec o poveste de dragoste născută între doi oameni complet diferiţi, în cele mai neaşteptate condiţii.
Când Sandy (Catherine Zeta Jones) descoperă că soţul său este infidel, decide să îşi ia copiii şi să îl părăsească. În postura femeii de 40 de ani, mamă singură a doi copii, ea sfidează orice dificultate şi pleacă la New York pentru a începe o viaţă nouă şi a-şi îndeplini un vis ambiţios: acela de a deveni reporter sportiv.
Găsind locul de muncă mult visat, Sandy începe să realizeze cât de dificilă îi va fi tranziţia spre statutul de femeie cu carieră şi este nevoită să apeleze la serviciile unei bone, Aram (Justin Bartha), un tânăr de 25 de ani. Aram are o viaţă boemă şi, în ciuda insistenţei părinţilor săi, refuză să accepte joburile cu perspectivă care i se oferă, preferând să caute fericirea în locul banilor. Intrucat el insusi nu intelege cum a reusit sa castige afectiunea lui Molly, Kirk Kettner nu este surprins sa observe ca familia, prietenii si fosta iubita privesc cu neincredere noua lui idila si ii ofera sfaturi ce i-ar putea ruina definitiv relatia de iubire. Jane Goodale (Ashley Judd) este o tanaara new-york-eza hotarata sa reuseasca atat in cariera, cat si in viata personala. Parasita si deznadajduita, Jane incepe sa caute cu disperare o explicatie a comportamentului lui, pe care o gaseste in lumea animala.
