   Purtator de cuvant, seducator si ambitios, Nick Naylor (Aaron Eckhart) isi pune sarmul in serviciul societatii “Big Tobacco” pentru a contracara politica de prevenire a consumului de tutun. In conferinte de presa si talk-show-uri se dovedeste a fi persuasiunea in persoana, dar intampina dificultati in a o convinge pe fosta lui sotie (Kim Dickens) ca poate fi un tata bun pentru fiul lor, Joey (Cameron Bright). Intr-o scena de inceput, Nick apare in fata unei audiente ostile, intr-un talk-show cu reprezentanti ai organizatiilor ce militeaza impotriva fumatului. Carismatic, jucand impecabil rolul omului care ii pasa de ceilalti si argumentand cu umor, castiga audienta de partea lui in doar cateva minute. 

   Ii este destul de usor sa inregistreze cucerire dupa cucerire intr-un mediu politic intesat de personaje ridicole, in contact cu media corupta si opinia publica usor de manipulat. Actiunile lui vor atrage atentia unui mare producator de tigari (Robert Duvall) si a unei ziariste (Katie Holmes), care va sfarsi prin a se indragosti de el.   Sursa: cinemarx

Description:   The chief spokesperson and lobbyist Nick Naylor is the Vice-President of the Academy of Tobacco Studies. He is talented in speaking and spins argument to defend the cigarette industry in the most difficult situations. His best friends are Polly Bailey that works in the Moderation Council in alcohol business, and Bobby Jay Bliss of the gun business own advisory group SAFETY. They frequently meet each other in a bar and they self-entitle the Mod Squad a.k.a. Merchants of Death, disputing which industry has killed more people. Nick’s greatest enemy is Vermont’s Senator Ortolan Finistirre, who defends in the Senate the use a skull and crossed bones in the cigarette packs. Nick’s son Joey Naylor lives with his mother, and has the chance to know his father in a business trip. When the ambitious reporter Heather Holloway betrays Nick disclosing confidences he had in bed with her, his life turns upside-down.
