In anul 1961, in suburbiile Londrei, inteligenta adolescenta in varsta de 16 ani pe nume Jenny (Carey Mulligan) se pregateste asiduu pentru a intra la Universitatea Oxford si a satisface pretentiile conservatorilor ei parinti Jack si Marjorie. Plictisita de rutina zilnica pe care o presupune viata de liceeana, Jenny este fericita atunci cand il cunoaste pe David, un barbat carismatic si fermecator, care este de doua ori mai in varsta decat ea. David o vrajeste repede pe fata lipsita de experienta si ii incanta atat de mult pe Marjorie si Jack incat acestia ii permit lui Jenny sa plece impreuna cu el in excursii de week-end, sa frecventeze baruri aglomerate pana la ore tarzii ale noptii si sa mearga la concerte de muzica clasica si la licitatii de obiecte de arta. Indragostita de David si ademenita de acest stil de viata libertin si luxos, Jenny uita de planurile de a deveni studenta la Oxford si isi pune astfel viitorul in pericol. Alternativa incitanta de educatie pe care i-o ofera acest playboy stilat i se pare fetei mult mai atractiva decat educatia traditionala pe care a primit-o de la parinti, dar riscul pe care si-l asuma devenind o femeie sofisticata sub bagheta mentorului ei este acela de a uita cine este cu adevarat. Summary: In the early 1960′s, sixteen year old Jenny Mellor lives with her parents in the London suburb of Twickenham. On her father’s wishes, everything that Jenny does is in the sole pursuit of being accepted into Oxford, as he wants her to have a better life than he. Jenny is bright, pretty, hard working but also naturally gifted. The only problems her father may perceive in her life is her issue with learning Latin, and her dating a boy named Graham, who is nice but socially awkward. Jenny’s life changes after she meets David Goldman, a man over twice her age. David goes out of his way to show Jenny and her family that his interest in her is not improper and that he wants solely to expose her to cultural activities which she enjoys. Jenny quickly gets accustomed to the life to which David and his constant companions, Danny and Helen, have shown her, and Jenny and David’s relationship does move into becoming a romantic one. However, Jenny slowly learns more about David, and by association Danny and Helen, and specifically how they make their money. Jenny(Carey Mulligan) has to decide if what she learns about them and leading such a life is worth forgoing her plans of higher eduction at Oxford. Source: IMDB
