Omul de stiinta si inventatorul Alexander Hartdegen (GUY PEARCE) este hotarat sa dovedeasca faptul ca o calatorie in timp este posibila. Hotararea lui e transformata in disperare de o tragedie personala care il motiveaza acum sa vrea sa schimbe trecutul. Testandu-si teoriile cu o masina a timpului inventata chiar de el, Hartdegen este aruncat 800.000 de ani in viitor, unde descopera ca omenirea s-a impartit in vanatori… si vanati.
Bazat pe romanul clasic SF al lui H.G. Welles, Masina timpului il are in rolul principal pe GUY PEARCE (Memento, L.A. Confidential) care il interpreteaza pe Alexander Hartdegen. Facandu-si debutul ca actrita, cantareata/compozitoare nascuta la Dublin, SAMANTHA MUMBA, joaca alaturi de PEARCE in rolul Mara, femeia care il insoteste pe Hartdegen in viitorul indepartat. Distributia internationala ii mai cuprinde pe ORLANDO JONES (Evolution – Evolutie), MARK ADDY (The Full Monty – Gol pusca), SIENNA GUILLORY (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang), PHYLLIDA LAW (Saving Grace) si actorul distins cu premiul Oscar JEREMY IRONS (Reversal of Fortune, Die Hard With a Vengeance).
