Bazat pe un fapt real, filmul spune povestea unui ambitios agent FBI care, din dorinta de a-l aresta pe varul lui John Gotti, pretinde ca este un producator de film de la Hollywood. Pentru ca mascarada sa fie completa, el are nevoie de un scenarist si de un regizor. Le gaseste pe amandoua in persoana lui Steven Schats, un aspirant a carui cariera este in asteptare de zece ani. Cu fonduri guvernamentale, cei doi incep productia care promite a fi un film in toata puterea cuvantului.
