Filmul orbiteaza in jurul lui Ramón Sampedro, un barbat care a luptat 30 de ani pentru a-si castiga dreptul de a practica eutanasia pe el insusi, pentru a-si sfarsi viata cu demnitate. Este explorata relatia lui Ramón cu doua femei: Julia, un avocat ce ii sprijina cauza, si Rosa, o femeie ce doreste sa-l convinga de faptul ca viata merita traita.
